Sega, in collaboration with developers Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and Dotemu, have released a new trailer for Streets of Rage 4, revealing a new character and new game mode.
The much anticipated follow up to the trilogy of Mega Drive beat ’em ups is due for release sometime later this year, and the news of a new character is a welcomed addition. That character, Floyd Iraia, is the fifth and final character alongside the previously announced Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, Adam Hunter and Cherry Hunter. His appearance in the trailer confirms he will fill out the same role as Max in Streets of Rage 2, that of the strong, but slow, brute, albeit with a few tweaks.
The title will also include four-player local co-op, a first for the series and a brilliant inclusion, as well as online play. Online play will be limited to two-player, but it’s another nice addition to a game which looks to be shaping up nicely.
Originally announced in 2018, Streets of Rage 4 is due for release 25 years after the release of Streets of Rage 3. Sega has already announced the legendary Yuzo Koshiro will return to score the game alongside Motohiro Kawashima, with contributions from Hideki Naganuma (Jet Set Radio, Sega Rally and Super Monkey Ball), Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden and Tecmo Bowl) and Yoko Shimomura, who scored Street Fighter II, Xenoblade Chronicles and the Kingdom Hearts games.
